Over the past year, the Cargill / Greenock Swamp Promotional Association has been working on a new development in the Village of Cargill.

The Village of Cargill was once one of the most thriving communities in the province. In the late 1800’s it was the location of the largest logging operation in Bruce County, largely due to the presence of the Greenock Swamp and its vast stands of white pine.

In recognition of Cargill’s amazing history, we created a special community plan entitled ‘History Comes Alive’ in 2018. This project included displays, exhibits and hands-on activities highlighting various aspects of Cargill logging era. Special artwork was completed and displayed throughout the village depicting logging characters from the late 1800’s. We were extremely pleased with the results. Over 500 people came out to enjoy the displays, train rides, etc.

Each year since then, we have been eager to expand our plans in providing an an old-fashioned mercantile store showcasing local artisans and talents.

The idea is to blend in the look of the store to compliment the historical theme but include merchandise for today’s market. We feel this is a great opportunity to create awareness about our local area and the amazing talent we have in the area. We look forward to seeing you there!

Signed,

The Greenock Swamp / Cargill Promotional Committee
